Q If I am over 23 can I still audition?
A Unfortunately, no.
Q If I am under 16 can I still audition?
A Unfortunately no. You must be 16 by October 1st 2010
Q. Why does Dorothy have to be so young?
A In the original book, Dorothy was much younger than in the MGM movie. HAF wants
to keep the character of Dorothy closer to the character original written by L.Frank
Baum.
Q. Will you be doing auditions next year also?
A Yes, We hope to be doing auditions for many different roles for many years to come.
Q. If I don't make the cut this year may I try out for next year?
A. Yes. Much like "So you think you can dance" you may continue to audition for as
many years as you like.
Q. What is Wizard?
A. WizaRD is a musical production centered on the hits of Oscar winning
composer Harold Arlen. The show unfolds in the mythical radio studios of WZRD
whose set design combines the nostalgic feel of yesteryears studios with the high
tech studios of today. This collection of vignettes, based on Arlens most nostalgic
songs, includes a Wizard of Oz scene, taken from the imagination of Frank Baum
on the eve of the creation of his Oz characters.
Audiences are taken on a journey from the Cotton Club years, through the
golden age of Hollywood, to the Broadway stage ...And to the land of OZ!
The new DOROTHY makes her debut alongside the THREE CROONERS, in this
heartwarming family friendly stage production slated to open in New York City, December 2010.
Wizard premiered on June 6th 2007 at the Ford Amphitheater in Los Angeles and
has since been workshopped in 22 performing arts centers across America.
Q Do I need to be a member of SAG or AFTRA or EQUITY?
A No. You do not. .
Q What is the difference between Off Broadway and Broadway?
A The difference between Broadway and Off Broadway is the size of the theater not
where it is located. Off Broadway is 500 seats or less. Broadway is over 500 seats.
Q. Is WIZARD on or off Broadway?
A. WiZaRD is going to be an Off Broadway Production and for now, WiZaRD will stay off
Broadway. Many Broadway shows, started in Off Broadway theaters.
Q. Who are the Contest Producers?
A. The contest is being produced by recording artist and Co-founder of Harold Arlen
Foundation George Bugatti and HAF's Executive Director Mary Shriver.
Q. Who is producing Wizard?
A. Wizard is being produced by Harold Arlen Foundation George Bugatti and Mary
Shriver. HAFs mission is to provide free music classes and theatre tickets to the underserved
children of the public school systems across America. HAF music outreach
program has already been presented in the Clark County school district of Las Vegas
reaching more than 8 thousand students.
Q. What are the long term plans for Wizard?
A. HAF is planning for Wizard to run for one month in NYC. It will continue to run every
year, for a limited 6week - 3month engagement, for many years to come.
